Worrying
When I was first asked to be a Sunday School teacher, I thought surely they had the wrong person - did they not know me?! I put off the request for months and the finally, the Sunday School Director approached me with the lesson plans in hand - I didn't say no.
My biggest fear was about the same for my kids - I hope that I wouldn't screw them up (see there - what kind of Sunday School teacher would say that!?!). When I think back about my childhood Sunday School teachers, I'm not what comes to mind (far from it).
I'm into my third month of teaching preteens and I'm learning right along with them :-) My class is small (the most I've had (excluding my own kids) at once is three) - I think the small size was good to start with for me, but now we're "fishing for men"! I’m still nervous about teaching, but its nice getting out of my comfort zone.
Today our lesson was about worrying - if you know anything about me you probably think it's funny that I'm giving a lesson on that (I'm a worrier). Jesus tells us not to worry (Mathew 6:25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?").
I think its human nature to worry (at least I hope I’m the norm w/ this and not the exception) - but with praying and reading God’s word, it makes it less intense. The lesson today stated that we need to trust God rather than worry – that we can live with joy regardless of our circumstances.
I’m still feel like I don’t “fit the mold” of the typical Sunday School teacher – I’m not perfect, my kids can be brats, etc……but with God’s grace and the help of the lesson plan, Google and many mentors, I think we’re coming along fine.
Philippians 4:6-7
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
